A MEIJI PERIOD SATSUMA VASE AND COVER C. 1880

264: A MEIJI PERIOD SATSUMA VASE AND COVER C. 1880

A Japanese Satsuma pottery vase and cover, the body of compressed globular form with a short, cylindrical neck, the dome cover with a broad rim and rising to a tear-drop knop, the whole decorated in overglaze enamels and gilding with a continuous band of karako (Chinese boys) playing various games in a snow shrouded landscape, the shoulder and cover with cavorting dragons amid stylized clouds, unmarked though very much in the manner of Yabu Meizan. Measures 5.5 x 4.25 inches.
We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
Very good condition, there are not chips, cracks, repairs or heavy wear. Note that there is an incised semi-circle line in the base formed while the clay was wet. This is neither a crack nor a firing line.
