369: A C. 1900 FRENCH GILT BOX WITH PAINTED PORCELAIN

An oval gilt brass box, the hinged cover centering a hand painted miniature portrait depicting Madame de Montesson in 18th century dress and coiffure, signed on the back "Montesson" and encompassed by a beaded encadrement on a diaper ground with applied ribboned bow and floral motifs, body with a band of engine turned scrolling acanthus vines, opening to reveal an original red velvet lined interior. The miniature is hand painted without transfer or decal. Measures 1.75 x 5 x 1.25 inches.

Very good original condition overall that includes green verdisgris across the surface. There is evidence of a previous tag back side.
