George Nichols Collection.
Nichols' notes regarding site M-9 read as follows, "Walter Farm. Located at north edge of field on north side of road on bluff where old U.S. 40 cuts thru bluff toward Mo. River bottom.” The St. Louis Community College website on a page maintained by Michael J. Fuller, Ph.D, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology, credits Nichols thus: "The Walter Site (23HD38) is a Clovis site situated on the bluffs of the Missouri River. The site was discovered by George Nichols, an amateur archaeologist and member of the Missouri Archaeological Society. Mr. Nichols reported the site to the Archaeological Survey of Missouri and Professor Carl Chapman (UMC). The Walter Site is situated on private property and is not open to visitors." Further academic reference to George Nichols can be found in "Memoir of the Missouri Archaeological Society," number 8, December 1970, pp 12 and 15.
