19: A GOOD ORMOLU-MOUNTED SEVRES STYLE VASE SIGNED BERTREN

A nice late 19th century two-piece Sevres style bleu celeste porcelain urn with bronze ormolu mounts. The baluster form body painted with an oval of airborne cherub holding a looking glass for a classical maiden in wooded landscape, artist signature of Bertren, the opposite side a floral spray in oval reserve, both scenes framed in a gold wreath. The domed cover topped by an ormolu acanthus bud and decorated with hand painted florals, the vase body topped with a bronze cover trimmed in bronze egg-and-dart pattern rim, ormolu satyr mask handles at each side above the bronze trim base socle within a laurel wreath foot and a conforming bronze base with cut corners. Of two-piece construction, the body revolves on a brass spindle mounted to the base. Measures 25.25 x 13 inches including width of satyr adornments. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust.
