An exceptional pair of heavily carved 19th century Chinese chairs with oval padded back surrounded by thick molded frame flanked by scrolling brackets and boldly surmounted by an impressive openwork crest intricately carved with scrolling vines and tendrils and palm fronds centering a pierced urn-form comport of fruit in a domed out highly pronounced three-dimensional urn of openwork carving and billowing dimension; all over a thickly padded compass seat having a very well carved openwork skirt centering a lotus flower; the whole raised on cabriole legs each headed by a handlebar mustachioed gentleman, the leg terminating in thick whorled feet; upholstered in black and white zebra striped cotton fabric.
