604: KING EDWARD VII & QUEEN ALEXANDRA ENAMEL PORTRAITS
The important portrait plaque pair being displayed on mounts encircled by a cast and gilded bronze openwork border of acanthus leaf repeat pattern backed by cornflower blue enamel enclosing a leather mat embossed with the royals' monogram in gold surmounted by a six-color fired enamels crest in bronze frame. Each hand painted enamel portrait is fired on copper and bears an unidentified artist's monogram along with the date of 1904. Queen Alexandra's portrait is derived directly from photographs of her coronation in 1902.
Each plaque measures 6 with a framed size of 13.5 x 12 inches.
Very good condition, noting a water stain to one leather mat, one loose but intact and attached crest, the easel back stand is missing from both. The enamel work is fine and free from any issues of chipping, crack,, repair, scratches or wear.
