78: A MONUMENTAL MEISSEN PORCELAIN EWER, THE ELEMENT EARTH
Meissen "Elements" Ewer, depicting "Earth" originally modeled by J J Kandler, crossed swords, incised 309, with a pink ribbon-tied wheat-grain handle surmounted by a putto with a basket of fruit, the waisted neck painted with sprigs, the body molded with a hunt flanked by applied figures of Diana and Pan above a hound attacking a bear, the reverse with a mountainous lakeside in bas-relief, supported on a stiff-leaf foot applied with a putto digging with a spade.
Measures 26 x 15 x 8.5 inches.
Old repair to the leg of the top cherub, a broken and lost tip of one wheat stalk tip, repair to the maiden's hand and bow, chipped and lost foliage, front legs of deer and boar have been restored, repair to the applied tree trunk, repair to the legs of the satyr, repair to the cherub's shovel.
