Signed lower left, inscription lower right reads 'To Emanuel Julius To His 60 Birthday from A. Walkowitz', dated on the frame liner 1922. Emmanuel Julius and his feminist, socialist, forward-thinking wife Marcet Haldeman took one another's names in hyphenate when they married in 1916. The two were world travelers, writers and publishers whose home in Girard, Kansas became a destination for writers, artists like Abraham Walkowitz, thinkers and interesting individuals from around the world. Marcet Haldeman-Julius and Emanuel Haldeman-Julius ran a publishing company from Girard beginning around 1919. Their writings and published collections were distributed world-wide. Within their most interesting life histories, they are best known as publishers of the Little Blue Books which sold literally millions of copies, reaching their zenith of popularity during the economic disparity and social tumult of the 1920s. Emanuel Haldeman-Julius ran as the Socialist party's Senatorial candidate for the state of Kansas in 1932.
Sight size measures 17.5 x 15, frame is 27.5 x 25 inches.
Apparently the condition is very good. There are no visible issues of stain, damage or repair. This work has not been examined outside the frame.
