CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN COMMEMORATING JOHN WILKES

11: CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN COMMEMORATING JOHN WILKES

An 18th century Chinese export porcelain armorial punch bowl commemorating John Wilkes, decorated with the motto ARMS OF LIBERTY over portrait of John Wilkes and Lord Mansfield within crested cartouches and banners lettered: ALWAYS READY IN A GOOD CAUSE and JUSTINE SANS PITIE, the sides divided by floral sprays and a border of flower heads around the top interior rim.
Measures 4.75 x 10.5 inches.
Cosmetically very good. There has been a high quality and now invisible professional restoration.

As shown in the listing images, two areas suffered damage in the form of large pieces having been broken and or cracks in these areas. The restoration is highly professional, there are no issues of yellowing or visibility without projecting bright light through the porcelain in a darkened room as shown.

The porcelain bowl rings soundly and displays no sign of restoration under normal conditions. There are no chips, no areas of wear, no visible cracks or repairs.
