51: A LATE 19TH C HAIDA NORTHWEST COAST ARGILLITE PIPE

A smoking pipe carved from argillite by the Haida indigenous nation of the Northwest Coast of North America, the depiction of multiple mythical figures and masks, argillite is a slate-like material quarried by the Haida on Haida Gwaii, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Measures 9.75 inches.
Good condition, noting a crack on the upper part of the pipe stem, nicks and loss of the black color on the pipe, a hairline crack on the bottom underside of the pipe stem by the hole.
