The depiction of a barn or shed interior after harvest, the bag, basket and crate spilling over with healthy ears of corn depicted in Montgomery's distinctive style with the thick impasto detail of each corn kernel, his initials portrayed on the leaning sack, a primitive wooden crate to the left and a true 19th century-style bent wood bushel basket on the right, a couple of ears on the floor. displayed in a rustic rough cut frame.
Measures 22 x 35, frame is 32 x 45 inches.
Very good original untouched condition, noting a very small touch-up lower center under the sack.. There are no other issues of scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
Provenance: The Van Dyke family, Marshall, Missouri civic leaders and entrepreneurs conducting business on the Marshall, Missouri square beginning around 1871. Their family collection of Art and Antiques spans more than four generations.
