26: JACKSON LEE NESBITT (1913-2008) VERY RARE ETCHING

Jackson Lee Nesbitt
Goin' To Town / Troost Trolley (1941)
Signed by the artist in pencil lower right, titled lower left. The rarest Nesbitt etching, among the best of all American prints, edition of 100 from which only around 10 prints were distributed before a wealthy patron closed out the edition. Nesbitt states that the scene occurred naturally as he and his wife Elaine (those are her legs far left) were aboard the Troost Avenue trolley in Kansas City. In the moment, the gentleman shown holding a flower actually had a small dog, but the artist felt it didn't fit the composition. Nesbitt's portrayal of the busy streets through the trolley glass is one of 20th century American printmaking's great achievements.
Plate size 9.75 x 12.75, the sheet measures 14.5 x 17.5 inches.
Very good condition, the complete sheet, not laid down, no stain, damage or repair.
