12: A RARE GOOSE FORM CAST IRON SINK BOX DECOY

The iron sink box weight cast in the form of a Canada goose, purportedly a form after that of a New Jersey decoy maker according to a 1989 catalog entry for this lot in the auction of 'THE NATIONALLY PROMINENT CORBIN COLLECTION OF AMERICAN IRON...recently exhibited at the Shelburne Museum', pictured page 34 and described as being one of only 12 known to exist, selling price in 1989 $3,500; this figure with old, if not original, paint is partially hollow.

Sink box weights or decoys served the dual purpose of weighting a hunter's battery blind flush with the water's surface in shallow coastal hunting ranges while serving as a decoy as well. These weights were nearly always in the form of a duck species.
Measures 8.5 x 24 x 8 inches.
Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair, light wear and subtle oxidation.
