126: EIGHT RARE HAND PAINTED MINIATURE SIDESHOW BANNERS

In the 1930s, toy companies and folk artists re-created scale models of traveling circuses known in the day as a Railroad Circus. Those models, complete with tents and wagons and all else found at a Railroad Circus were often ringed by banners such as these, in miniature. These exact replicas ringed the circus grounds or ran in 'banner lines' where hand painted canvas banners such as these, touting actual acts and attractions, were displayed side by side tied to vertical wood posts. One in this group is dated 5-9-31.

Pictured on pages 106-111 of Sellers' book (Figures 8.3-8.8).
Measure 15.5 x 9.5 inches, excluding board.
Very fine condition throughout. There are no issues of damage, repair or wear.
