17: A RARE WINDSOR STOOL C. 1801, EXCELLENT ORIGINAL PAINT
The rare form with exceptional original surface, very dray paint surface, thick circular top, four turned legs joined by bulbous stretchers, original black paint with very well preserved dry matte surface. A period note tacked to the bottom reads, 'Caleb made this stool for Sarah Chrismas(sic) 1801.'
Charles Santore notes in his book, The Windsor Style in America Vol II, page 251 that he is aware of just four examples of Windsor stools outside museum collections.
Measures 13.75 x 14.25 x 16.25 inches.
Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair, light wear at some edges.
