A LARGE RARE ROTATING STAR CAST IRON GALLERY TARGET

161: A LARGE RARE ROTATING STAR CAST IRON GALLERY TARGET

This monumental rotating five pointed star target is so large and striking it almost certainly would have been the centerpiece of a William Mangels shooting gallery. To date, it is the only known example of its type. The thick heavy star with original concentric ring bullseye and iron gong is also set with spring loaded clips on its back side. Each clip would hold a clay smoking pipe which provided a nice burst of shattering clay when struck. Two sets of clay pipes cast from plaster of Paris using a Mangels iron pipe as mold are included. This rare unsigned target is pictured in many Mangels catalogs, including page 10 of Mangels catalog 15 (gallery 48).

Pictured on page 18 (Figure 1.13) of Sellers' book.
Displayed on a custom iron stand. This is the only example the Tuckers have seen or heard of in their 30 years of collecting.
Measures 30 x 30 inches, excluding stand.
Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair.
