102: A FINE, RARE FOLK ART ROOSTER TARGET IN ORIGINAL PAINT

The early sheet metal rooster silhouette with hand forged rivet construction, animated chick figure, exceptional original paint, and great folk art qualities. Attributed to William Wurfflein, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1880. This is the only known example of this target. It strongly resembles known Wurfflein examples, including some with the animated chick figure of similar form that appears or disappears with a bullseye. The surface is an outstanding example of patina with rich colors that, though darkened, are still strong and display a rich warmth. The rainbow-like tail and the detail on the legs are both very appealing features.

Measures 14.75 x 12.25 inches, excluding stand.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear. There is no spring mechanism for the chick. the overall condition is as shown with nice overall patina.
