9: A CLASSIC PAINTED IRON AND ZINC OPTICIAN'S TRADE SIGN
A classic American folk art example of the sign painter's craft, the depiction of human eyes hand painted on each side of oval zinc panels set in large gilded iron eye glasses suspending a zinc banner with black lettering on period gilded ground.
L.D. Cutler, an optician in Windsor Locks, Connecticut was, according to the census, 24 years old in 1920.
Measures 9 x 23.5 x 0.5 inches.
Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair, minor wear and losses, the hand painted eyes are of original paint, the lower banner re-gilded and lettered early on.
