A LARGE 19TH C GERMAN PORCELAIN MIRROR WITH CHERUBS

158: A LARGE 19TH C GERMAN PORCELAIN MIRROR WITH CHERUBS

The surmount of facing airborne cherubs draping porcelain garland on a cartouche topped by a figural crown atop the oval frame with highly detailed applications of intricate flower blossoms joining a matching cartouche at the base with scrolling feet that, in conjunction with remains of an apparatus on the wood back, suggest that this could have also been used as a tabletop mirror at one time.
Measures 35.5 x 22.5 inches.
Unexplained house paint at the top of the cartouche just below the crown. There is no actual repair there, although there are what appeared to be original factory firing lines in that area. Two to three small clusters of applied porcelain flowers lost from the proper right side just below the cherub foot. No other damage, loss or repair could be found.
Provenance: The multi-generation collection of an early Kansas City family in the same home since 1962.
