37: A PAIR OF 18TH C. GESSOED AND GOLD LEAF PRICKET STICKS

A pair of 18th C. Baroque style ecclesiastical candle holders, probably Italian, carved decoration of leaves and scrolls, the back side neither carved nor gilded. Each measures 24.25 x 7.5 inches diameter, not including the prickett. Provenance: Post Art Library Foundation. Purchased in 1958 from Zerms Antiques of Kirkwood, Missouri. Zerms stated that these were acquired from the estate of Pulitzer Prize winner Herbert Bayard Swope who authored the Swope Plan for economic recovery in 1933.
Losses, worm wood , splits etc commensurate with age.
