Union Army paymaster's 'Daily Pocket Remembrancer 1863,' with entries from January 7th through April 29th. Generally discusses weather, lodgings, travel, etc. Reports on April 17th: 'Extended & paid off the bloody 35th Indiana by 2 1/2 O.C. pm. They are an army of thieves = I have reason to believe […] stole $100 from me while paying off the Field and Staff officers after night.' Additional pencil notations on later pages, with lists and sums. Self-contained 'remembrancer,' gilt fore edges, in cross-hatched brown leatherette cover, with tongue closure and gilt printed 'DIARY 1863' above. Measures 5.25 x 3.5 inches. Also includes a Matthew Brady studios CDV of Captain Collins in uniform, full length view, dated 1862, marked 'Brady' to lower left corner. Also a second CDV, headshot, with penciled name and date 1863, plus an extra CDV-size engraving of Charles Phillips, Esq.

Wear and discoloration commensurate with age. Mild toning, strong binding, leather cover in overall good condition. Both CDV images are in good condition.
