18: CHATTANOOGA DAILY REBEL NEWSPAPER, DEC 16, 1862
Original single-sided Confederate newspaper, Daily Rebel Banner five column morning edition for Tuesday, December 16, 1862. Measures 19.75 x 13.25 inches. More than 30 panels/stories relating to aspects of life and the war, including 'A Suggestion to the Conservative Men of the North.' Also notices about escaped slaves, lost medals, etc. The Daily Rebel Banner was published by Francis M. 'Franc' Paul beginning in August 1862 and was one of the only Confederate newspapers to remain in publication throughout the war. This also meant the newspaper often had to relocate in order to avoid the Union army. It is rare to find original copies in private hands.
