135: A MONUMENTAL CANAPE DE L'AMITIE WITH MIRROR

An out-sized Louis XV-Style Giltwood Canape de L'Amitie with Mirror. Comprising an irregular cartouche-shaped plate having an arched crest of C-scrolled rocaille above similarly detailed sides and rail which centers a similar scrolling motif, the canape flanked by adjoining fauteuils with "C" scroll and rocaille modeled crest rails, continuing on serpentine rectangular frames enclosing padded backs, padded downsweeping arms and conforming padded seats over undulating seat rails with rocaille carving; the whole raised on six front cabriole legs with foliate detailed knees ending in whorl feet. Upholstered in a French blue toile on a cream ground. Measures 119.5 x 114 inches.

Good, sturdy complete condition displaying light wear and surface loss of the original gessoed gilt finish in scattered small bits. There are carvings at the base of the mirror that remain loose until permanent installation.
