CIRCA 1900 PAIUTE BEADED BASKET

9: CIRCA 1900 PAIUTE BEADED BASKET

The exterior fully beaded with metallic silver, blue, green and brown glass beads in a geometric design over the woven basketry base of single rod willow foundation. Measures 2.5 x 5 inches. The Paiute Indians used a hand loom to create their beaded mesh to be slipped over the basketry base, a style and technique that became popular in the early part of the 20th century. Purchased from Dennis Eros, Navaho Medicine on December 8, 1976.
A 3/16 inch hole in the beading at one side area, otherwise very good. There are no other areas or bits of damage or loss.
