5: A RARE JOSEPH VORST LITHO: TOM BENTON AND HIS FAMILY

A rare and previously unrecorded pencil signed lithograph of which little is known. The artist is Joseph Paul Vorst (1897 - 1947). The composition is clearly a depiction of Vorst's friend and teacher Thomas Hart Benton (1889 - 1975). Vorst and Benton met in the early 1930s. In 1939, Benton's daughter Jessie was born, his son Thomas Piacenza Benton would be 13-years old that year. The kids' ages here place this work at circa 1941. This rare and notable depiction of Tom Benton and His Family is signed Joseph Vorst in pencil near the lower right side just below the image. The image size is 13.5 x 12 inches, the deckle edge sheet measures 20.75 x 16, frame measures 23 x 20.75 inches. We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
Toning in the margins, the upper right corner of the sheet is chipped, a 1/2-inch tear on the right margin. Good overall. Not laid down, the full sheet, no other issuer, no damage, repair, wear, punctures or repair.
