225: A RARE 18THC. SPANISH (BUEN RETIRO) PORCELAIN VASE

A very rare Spanish porcelain vase, circa 1784 - 1795, the cover topped by a gold trimmed acanthus bud finial ribbed dome over beaded border, the downward curving form of the cover decorated by en grisaille landscape scenes in oval reserves joined by blue garlands; the cylindrical body with two openwork fluted strap handles is decorated with a large oval of classical figures in reserve against a black ground connected by blue garland to an opposing oval reserve with en grisaille decoration of a country peasant home, the form tapering to the stem with gold trimmed upward rising stylized molded leaves and blossoms climbing the body just above the pedestal, the whole bolted and raised on a circular base with gold trimmed upward turned scallops. Signed under the base by a blue under-glaze fleur-des-lis mark. Measures 19 x 11.5 inches.
The Real Fabrica de Buen Retiro factory was established in Madrid Spain around 1760 when Charles VII of Naples became Charles III of Spain and moved all resources of the Capodimonte porcelain factory from Naples to the grounds of the palace of Buen Retiro outside Madrid. The factory operated until it was burned during the Peninsular War of 1812.
A similar vase was purchased in 2010 by the National Museum of Ceramics and Decorative Arts located in Valencia, Spain, and a pair identical to this single vase are held in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Very good condition, there are no issues of damage, repair or wear, no chips, cracks or restoration.
