117: A RARE HOFFMANN ILLUMINATED EYE SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET

The rare and interesting target bust of a Russo-Japanese War soldier on its original sheet iron back plate, one of only two examples known to exist. The size and complexity are such that there would likely have only been one of these mounted to the front of any large shooting gallery as opposed to the many figural targets one would see on conveyors throughout the gallery, thus its rarity. The uniform and visage characteristics are that of a Japanese soldier form the period circa 1905. This model is illustrated in an undated Hoffmann catalog as an 'Illuminated Eye Target' part number 54 and on Hoffmann's Automatic Gallery No. 35.

Pictured on page 68 of Sellers' book (Figure 5.11).
Measures 20 x 18.25 inches.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear, classic shooting gallery target peened surface from several hundred lead bullets.
