104: A C.W. PARKER ABILENE WHIPPET SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET

The whippet dog target figure typically seen in pursuit of a similar rabbit target in C.W. Parker shooting galleries (lot 105 in this auction). This uncommon target is made more rare by its original paint and exceptional condition. Signed C.W. Parker Abilene back side in cast embossed letters, this original Parker whippet target manufactured prior to 1910 is not to be confused with a much later greyhound figure occasionally seen on the market. Illustrated in many Parker advertisements and catalogs, including on page 12 of Parker's Catalogue of Shooting Galleries, Gallery No. 20.Pictured on page 32 (Figure 2.8) of Sellers' book.
Measures 9 x 26.75 inches, excluding stand.
Very good original 'pristine' (in the world of shooting gallery targets) condition throughout, no damage or repair and rare with original paint.
