309: AN EXCEPTIONAL SEVRES URN PAIR SIGNED M. DEMONCEAUX

An exceptional pair of 19th century Sevres style Covered Urns finely decorated with continuous scenes of classical maidens and putti in detailed landscapes, each signed M. Demonceaux. One depicts Psyche standing full length in a landscape holding the box of beauty surrounded by airborne putti chasing butterflies; the opposite side a winged putti standing atop fantasy flowers playing the pan pipes. The companion urn depicts a classical maiden in purple robe gathering flowers within a landscape while an airborne putti sits astride a flying insect and another cradles a dove in its arms. The opposite side depicts a putti with insect wings atop fantasy flowers and fronds holding a tethered love bird. Each oviform urn base is adorned with applied gilt bronze acanthus mounts and beading; the short domed porcelain foot of each with butterflies, dragonflies, flowers and cherubic portraits; the waisted neck of each with cherubic portraits terminating gilt highlights; dome cover of each further decorated with cherubic portraits and surmounted by a fine detailed gilt bronze acanthus bud finial; each on a shaped socle base and conforming gilt bronze foot. A Serves style mark in blue is applied within the domed cover.
Measure 21.5 x 5.75 inches each.
Outstanding condition. There has not been restoration to any element. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or wear. The gilding of the bronze mounts is bright and largely intact and/original. The gold trim on the porcelain is bright and good and without wear. There are no rubs, blemishes, stains or crazing. Each stands straight and true on their revolving mounts.
