392: AN EXCEPTIONAL 19TH C. FRENCH DIEPPE CARVED IVORY BOX

The example of overall superior carving including the elaborate plaque centering the hinged cover with its depth and intricacy and crispness, as with the lid frame which is carved in great detail and crispness with scrolling borders, a leaf rim and outset corners. Each of the box's corner uprights are finely carved bamboo designs while all four sides of the box are centered by a highly detailed floral plaque in high relief over the lower frame edge with repeating leaf pattern, the whole raised on four square two-tier peg feet. The velvet-lined interior is fitted with a till and the lid has an intricate locking mechanism.
Measures 4.5 x 8 x 5.5 inches.
Very good condition, noting minor issues of splitting consistent with age and material. There are no issues of damage chipping, repair or wear.
